Mounties make quick arrest after early morning break-in

QUALICUM BEACH – Investing in a surveillance system paid off for an Oceanside business.

Around 1:20 a.m on April 24, someone broke into a store at a shopping complex at the intersection of Highways 4 and 4a.

Once inside, the alarm activated and the suspect, a woman, grabbed a few small items and fled.

Oceanside RCMP say the business had a security camera which provided footage of the break-in which helped police recognize the woman who was arrested her at her Qualicum Beach home within 24 hours of the crime.

The surveillance footage was instrumental in helping police get their suspect, according to Oceanside RCMP Corporal Jesse Foreman.

“This is another great example of a business owner investing in a surveillance system to better protect themselves,” he said. “This surveillance was instrumental in helping investigators make a swift arrest backed by very sound evidence.

The unidentified woman was released on conditions and has a court appearance scheduled in Nanaimo Provincial Court on May 23.
