QUALICUM BEACH – The Official Community Plan process in Qualicum Beach is ramping up.
The town’s Director of Planning Luke Sales says a lot of public feedback has been given and two main issues have emerged, a lack of housing options and transportation for pedestrians. Sales says there are different approaches the town could take to create more rental housing options.
“You have municipalities that take an active role in developing rental housing. That may not be something the town is interested in.” he said. “There’s policies that a municipality can put into place. There’s financial incentives that a municipality can out in place. So there’s lots of options.”
Sales points out there has been a huge amount of public interest, noting there were more than 2-thousand responses to their ‘Quality of Life Survey.’ He adds there will be plenty more public feedback sessions on updating the document in October.
A draft updated OCP is expected to be presented to town council in the New Year.
