New day care spaces coming to Qualicum/Bowser

QUALICUM BEACH – A half million dollar investment into day care in Oceanside is good news for parents looking for spaces.

The Qualicum First Nation received the money from the provincial government’s Child Care Major Capital Funding Program. Pam Moore, manager of children’s programs, says they will be able to expand their day care centre.

“We currently have a child care centre for children 3 to 5 years,” she said. “Now we’ll able to build a brand new centre right beside it to house our after school program.”

Once open, the Qualicum First Nation will be the only licensed provider of after school care in the area. Moore says its good news for the centre but just as big for parents.

“So that they have some quality, accessible local child care where they can take there child to, or where the child can come to after school,” said Moore. “We’ll be servicing the Bowser catchment area for Bowser Elementary School. I think that’s great news for them.”

Moore hopes construction can start at the end of January and barring delays expects the new centre to be open by September 2018.
