PARKSVILLE — A 34-year-old Lantzville man is dead following a single-vehicle crash on the Inland Island Hwy.
RCMP said it happened Sunday around 8:15 p.m. when a southbound car lost control on Hwy. 19 south of the Horne Lake Rd. turnoff and went down a 10-metre embankment.
The driver, who was alone in the car, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead before an air ambulance crew arrived at the scene north of Qualicum Beach.
Police are investigating what caused the crash and no name has been released. They said it’s too soon to say if speed, alcohol or drugs were factors.
The crash marked the third fatal collision on highways in the Oceanside region already this year.
A man was killed in a single-vehicle rollover on Hwy. 19 heading up the Nanoose hill on March 16.
Just over a month later, a man was killed and his wife seriously injured after the vehicle they were in collided with a fuel truck on Hwy. 19 in Lantzville at Hillview Rd.
