Alleged motorcycle thief doesn't get far before crashing in Lantzville

NANAIMO — It was far from a Hollywood movie getaway for a man accused of stealing a motorcycle in Parksville.

Oceanside RCMP Sgt. Stephen Rose told NanaimoNewsNOW a bike reported stolen from a south Parksville business Tuesday afternooon later crashed into a car at the intersection of Hwy. 19 and Superior Rd. in Lantzville.

“Nanaimo RCMP attended and dealt with the collision component, while we attended and apprehended the driver of the motorcycle, who remains in police custody.”

Rose said the 35-year-old rider sustained minor cuts and was not wearing a helmet.

He said the crash was not related to police action, since police weren’t in pursuit as they didn’t know where he’d driven off to.

Rose said the suspect has a court appearance scheduled for Wednesday in Nanaimo.

The incident caused minor traffic delays early Tuesday afternon.
