NANAIMO — The Clippers battled Prince George for the first time since sweeping the Spruce Kings in the 2026 BCHL Coastal Conference final.
Both teams came in to the Saturday, Nov. 7 contest leading their respective divisions this season and Nanaimo took a tight 3-2 decision in overtime.
It was the Clippers seventh straight victory and it ended Prince George’s seven game win streak.
After a scoreless first period Matthew Ross put Nanaimo ahead with a power play goal in the middle frame.
Cooper Faughnan scored twice in the first three minutes of the third to give Prince George a short lived lead only to have Clippers captain Miller Kay score a shorthanded goal to force overtime.
Patrick Fortune won the game in three on three OT by getting his fifth point in two games in the extra session.
The Clippers shutdown the league’s best power play by going two for two on the penalty kill and Ross’s goal was scored on the only Nanaimo man advantage.
Overall the shots were 51-33 in favour of the Clippers and backup netminder Grayson Hanggi got the win over the Spruce Kings Cody Arnold.
All three of Nanaimo’s goal scorers tallied in both games on the Nov. 6 and 7 weekend as the Clippers outscored their opposition 10-4.
The Clippers will remain at home for divisional games on Nov. 13 versus Cowichan Valley and Nov. 15 against the Victoria Grizzlies.
