From their first Number one smash hit with My Girl, through the psychedelic era and into the 70’s The Temptations embodied cool, with silky harmonies and catchy tunes that made them a truly influential group. Coming together in the early 1960’s as a conglomeration of 2 vocal groups.: The Primes, featuring Eddie Kendricks and Paul Williams who had sung in church together as kids, as well as Otis Williams and The Distants, which provided the 3 other Elgins: Otis Williams, Al Bryant and Melvin Franklin. Eventually The Elgins became The Temptations, and by 1964 they were one of the top vocal groups of the era.
